Meaning of Home Contest for Kids in Grades 4,5 & 6
Students in Grades 4, 5 and 6 are encouraged to submit a poem or essay explaining what home means to them in a national Habitat for Humanity writing contest that opened in January 2022. Three grand prize winners will each receive a $30,000 grant to help Habitat for Humanity Manitoba build a place to call home for a family in need of affordable housing.
Every local student who enters the Meaning of Home contest earns a $10 donation towards Habitat for Humanity Manitoba. In addition to the grand prize winners, nine runners up will receive a $10,000 grant for their local Habitat build.
The Meaning of Home contest is a great way for students to engage in an interactive and fun way, and it teaches youth the importance of safe, affordable housing.
"Houses have walls but homes have so much more. Home is where you want to be, a safe place to live, study and grow. A place to be with family and to invite friends and neighbours. A place of comfort and security," says Sandy Hopkins, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Manitoba.
Submissions are being accepted by mail or online until February 18, 2022. Winners will be announced by June.
