What a summer it has been so far! I hope you have tried to get out of the house or office and take time to celebrate our city and province at it's best. The concerts and festivals are plentiful in Winnipeg and every town in rural Manitoba. Have you toured your province? Few Winnipeggers venture outside of the city or only drive as far as Winnipeg or Grand Beach or the Whiteshell. Why not plan a day trip to see some of this province's incredible sites and August events? Check out the Frog Follies in St. Pierre, Pioneer Days at the Steinbach Heritage Museum or the Morden Corn and Apple Festival.
Of course, here in Winnipeg we have Folklorama, an amazing multicultural festival that allows us to travel around the world experiencing entertainment, exhibits and food at over 40 pavilions. Take the kids to Folklorama and teach them about the ethnic diversity of our city.
In this issue we also offer Back to School tips, programs, classes and events to help you plan for September. We offer articles on how to transition your kids from summer to school, which can be very stressful for kids and parents alike. The key is planning now and be organized. Make lists, do school supply shopping early and book your kids into their after school and weekend programs and classes now.
I am proud to say that Winnipeg Parent celebrates its 24th birthday in August. I still remember watching the first issue come flying off the presses. It is hard to believe that 24 years later, the publication keeps growing and evolving thanks to our wonderful staff, great contributors and loyal advertisers. Of course, you the readers make it all worthwhile. I am so thankful for the positive feedback we receive from you with your kind words and suggestions.
Winnipeg Parent is a labour of love for me. I believe that parenting is the toughest job you will ever have. If we can help parents, caregivers and educators find the information they need to make family life a little easier, that means everything. Not a week goes by without a reader calling, emailing or messaging us for a phone number, a suggestion or parenting idea and I see our Family Fun Calendar posted up on daycare and school billboards. Our delivery team have told me stories about how excited people get they deliver each new issue.
Thank you! Thank you!
Please continue offering your suggestions and ideas by emailing me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Have a wonderful August,
