Summer is just around the corner and everyone is happy to finally be outside walking, playing, biking, tossing hoops, roller blading or whatever it is you love to do as a family. It’s time to turn off the TV, video games and computers and vow to spend more time outside daily, being active and having fun! Parents need to set an example and participate with their kids in outdoor fun. Check out the Participaction Playlist 150 to try something new this month and all summer long. It is a great cross country challenge that everyone can register for and then try the many activities suggested. Have you tried wall climbing or archery, hackey sack, raking leaves, building a sandcastle, monkey bar climbing, wood chopping, wash the car, badminton etc? Visit www.participaction.com/150 register and make it a family challenge over the next few months! You can win prizes too!

I can’t believe that we are about to host our 14th annual Family Fun & Learning Fair (PDF) on Sunday, April 30th from 9:30-3:30 at the Caboto Centre. Our 1st Family Fun & Learning Fair, was held in 2003 and boy have those years flown by! Winnipeg Parent’s mission is to connect families with comprehensive information about parenting, family friendly events, programs, organizations and businesses. We pride ourselves in doing this in print on the pages of Winnipeg Parent eight times a year and at our family trade show that connects family friendly organizations and businesses with our readers to meet face to face. It is a wonderful day! We have 30 interesting family friendly exhibitors, all day entertainment, indoor bouncers, face painting, balloon twisting, glitter and henna tattoos and more!

This is our Baby on Board issue and we offer valuable information for new and expectant parents. It is an exciting and exhausting time for families having babies and no matter how much you prepare for your first child, it is like a roller coaster ride with many ups, downs and unexpected curves! Parenting is the toughest yet most rewarding job on earth and there are many resources organizations and resources in our city and province for expectant and new parents. we encourage you to search them out if you feel you need help and guidance. As they say…it takes a village to raise a child!

Is your child going to camp this summer? It is an experience of a lifetime. Check out our camps included in this issue to find the perfect match for your child. Camp varieties are numerous but book in now to ensure a space. If you want to send your child to a sleep away camp…it is important to make sure they can handle it. Have they slept over at grandparents or friends houses without a problem? Are they independent? Can they tie their shoes, brush their teeth, dress themselves etc? Talk to camp directors to find out who they hire as counselors? Call the Manitoba Camping Association for referrals and to have all your questions about camps in Manitoba answered.

Have a wonderful fun-filled, memory-making month of May. See you at the Family Fun & Learning Fair on Sunday, April 30th! (PDF)
