After a long wait for Spring, Summer is finally here! Our city has come to life after those long, dark winter days but I am sure you will agree that the Winnipeg Jets made those days incredibly exciting. What fun we had as our city turned green and we watched playoff hockey! Sadly, it all came to an end after losing Game 5 here in Winnipeg. It has been an incredible ride and we know the future is going to be really exciting with our young, talented team. I love that where ever I go in Winnipeg, I see such pride with people wearing Jets gear and posting signs that say GO JETS GO!!! #WE ARE WINNIPEG!
The summer months provide the opportunity to watch your children grow and change from the end of one school year to the beginning of the next. Keep your children reading and learning throughout the summer what ever it is you do. Why not have your child keep a summer journal? What a fantastic way to preserve memories! Why not choose books to read aloud together daily, taking turns. How about researching how to plant a garden and have the kids plant and nurture it with you. Nurturing a garden takes patience and persistence which are valuable skills for children to learn.
Planning a fabulous summer for your family takes time but not necessarily money! This city and province offer many FREE events, concerts and festivals. You can plan your own day camp fun in your home, backyard and neighbourhood or head to your neighbourhood splash pad or wading pool. Capture your summer memories in pictures and on video so you can hold on to those times and relive them, in the future.
We can help you plan the best fun-filled summer yet offering a packed Family Fun Calendar with activities and events taking place throughout Winnipeg and Manitoba. Take in free concerts, visit a rural fair, take the kids to a Farmerís Market, go to a Winnipeg Goldeyes or Winnipeg Blue Bomber game. Take time to really enjoy your kids this summer and treasure every minute together.
I am so proud to say that we have been publishing Winnipeg Parent for 25 Years! It was August 1993 when we printed our first issue. It was a labour of love for me to create a free publication that could provide valuable information to help parents make family life a little easier. I saw a similar publication in Toronto and then in Los Angeles and thought we should have one in Winnipeg. I had no idea how to publish a newspaper, but I learned quickly. To see the first issue come off the printing press was surreal! It is hard to believe that it is 25 years and more than 200 publications later and I must thank our dedicated advertisers who believed in my dream and supported it all these years. Thank you to our graphic artist Ron White, our sales team, Karen Jorgenson and Allison Delaurier, our delivery team Kim Nguyen, Cecilia Henderson and Brad Sweeney and to our printer the Winnipeg Sun. I am so grateful to you, our readers who have been so supportive over the years.
THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
Have a Wonderful June & July!
