August is here and that means that our long sunny days are getting shorter and the reality is that there are just 5 weeks until the kids head back to school. I hope you have enjoyed summer so far and it is time to make the best of what's left of summer vacation. As in June and July, our city and province offer farmer's markets, fairs and festivals throughout the month of August. Check out our packed calendar for all the family fun! Take in all the FREE outdoor movies, a Blue Bomber or Goldeyes game!
Be a tourist in our own city and see it through the eyes of our many visitors. Visit the Manitoba Museum and Children's Museum, enjoyed a boat ride, the shops and the Heritage Playground at The Forks. Got to Assiniboine Park and the Zoo to check out all the new exhibits. Why not head out of town for a day to Falcon Lake Beach, Grand Beach, Gimli or Winnipeg Beach? Pack up all you need and enjoy a great day as a family.
My son and daughter-in-law have returned home after living in Australia for 8 years. It is such an exciting time for all of us as they start the next chapter of their lives back in Winnipeg. Although they have been back a few times over those years, it has been fun to see them realize how much this city has grown and changed. Winnipeg is a great city to work, play and raise a family! We don't spend hours on a freeway, housing is reasonable and we have great restaurants, schools, recreation, culture and professional sports. It will be so much fun to watch them renew their love for their home town!
This issue features Back to School Part 1, a guide to classes and programs to register for the fall. The sooner your book your children into their programs, the more likely you will get the times and programs you want. Whether it is swimming lessons, dance, music, gymnastics, art classes or community sports ...try to get organized now before things get hectic. Start your school shopping soon before the stores get crowded and be a back to school shopping champ by getting it done NOW! In this issue we also offer great tips to transition the kids to back to school routines.
Have a wonderful August and get out there as a family to enjoy your backyard, your parks, your community and your province!
