Goodbye Winter... Hello Spring!
We have made it through one of the most challenging winters of our lives. We made the best of it and experienced and enjoyed our winter city in so many ways. We can now look forward to the grass turning green, the tulips blooming and the leaves starting to bud. The early melt helped us all feel pretty good about the prospects of a long, warm summer of family fun! There may not be large events to attend but we will be able to watch the kids play soccer and baseball, enjoy eating on our many outdoor patios and make our backyards our sanctuaries of family fun and relaxation. Why not enhance your backyard with comfy outdoor furniture, cornhole or croquet games, a firepit and lighting?
The Blue Bombers and the Goldeyes are hoping to be able to have some fans in the seats this summer. I have heard that the Red River Exhibition may happen in July. How exciting would it be to attend any or all of these?
Summer Camps are a hopeful go but how this will happen is still in discussion. Many camps are waiting on government guidance to start registering but some Sleep Away and Day Camps are taking registration now. If you would like your child to go to camp, check out our day camp directory in this issue to get started.
Our April and May Family Fun Calendar have few events, but we provide lots of great ideas to plan family fun every week. How wonderful that our city has new and exciting places to experience this spring! Check out Aunt Sallyís Farm at the Zoo, Quamajuq, the beautiful, world class Inuit Art Centre at the WAG, and the Prairies Gallery at the Manitoba Museum. The Childrenís Museum is planning to reopen in April also.
This issue also offers great articles from our regular contributors. Dr. Jay Greenfeld writes about teaching your child assertiveness and Maureen Penkoís column is about the importance of Lullabies and Camp Songs in speech and language skills. We also provide some great Motherís Day gift and craft ideas to make Momís Day extra special!
We can be proud of our province and how we are doing as the virus cases surge across the country. Letís continue to take all the precautions to keep ourselves, our families and friends healthy and get the vaccine when we are eligible. This is the path to a wonderful summer ahead!
Take Care and Happy Spring!
