As I write this column, we are in the midst of a 3 day winter storm. I am a positive person and try to focus on the silver lining in most situations but 40cm of snow in mid-April will test the patience of even the most optimistic person. I know it is going to melt quickly because normal temperatures will return, and we will go from this to 15c in a flash and all will be forgotten. By the time you read this, we will hopefully be well on our way to summer!
The storm closed everything and everyone staying home bringing an extra-long weekend which was not a bad thing especially when you are a home body, can work from home and don't really have anywhere to go. If you are a parent with young children at home, it was a bigger challenge to keep everyone engaged while you also work from home. It was not too long ago that we had to do this for months! Remember that! Everything returns to normal quickly and I have a great feeling and warm thoughts about the month of May! May is one of my favourite months! The sun is warm, the tulips and leaves come out, the grass turns green and garden centres open. This worst winter ever will be a distant memory. Let's get to our wonderful Winnipeg summer of heat and fun.
The great news is that many of our outdoor festivals and events are returning this year! It is wonderful that our International Kidsfest will return to the Forks in June and most of the annual summer festivals will also return. There is a great new Dinosaur exhibit opening at the Manitoba Museum in May that you won't want to miss! Summer day and sleep-away camps are booking up so if you are planning to send your children to camp, check out our Summer Camps section in this issue and call or email them to find out the details.
This issue also features Baby on Board and Mother's Day sections. Becoming a parent is the most exciting, exhausting, stressful and rewarding job you will ever have. We offer some great articles and tips on parenting and a Mother's Day tribute to all the Moms who do the most important job of raising our little ones.
Have a Marvelous May!
