Fall is here! Leaves are crunching, the new school year is starting, and there are lots of new things happening at Winnipeg Public Library. A new session of early literacy programming starts on October 2, with Baby Rhyme Time, Toddler Time, and Family Story Time programs. Join us for stories, songs, and rhymes that will help young children build their pre-reading skills and get ready for kindergarten and beyond. To register for a fall early literacy session go online at winnipeg.ca/library, phone, or visit any library branch.
There are also lots of great new books hitting the library shelves this fall, a few of which we are featuring here. Reading with your child every day is the best way to help them get ready to learn to read.
Ruby René had so Much to Say by Ashley Iman and illustrated by Gladys Jose is about a young student who often finds herself in trouble for talking out of turn at school, but she just has so many interesting facts to share! With the help of her teachers and parents a solution is found for her to share all her thoughts without interupting her classmates.
Ursula Upside Down by Corey R. Tabor is a funny tale of doing things your own way, even if they may seem a little different. Ursula is a catfish living her life how she always has until someone points out that she is swimming upside down and she begins to question everything. The text in the book has you flipping the book this way and that as you read, making you also question which way is up and which is down.

Sea Snooze by Sarabeth Holden and illustrated by Emma Pedersen is lyrical and heartwarming bedtime story about two siblings who aren’t quite ready to go to bed. Before they do, they need to have a snack and go on a dreamy adventure sailing the arctic ocean to say goodnight to all the animals.
Hello, Hands! by Aya Khalil is a lyrical celebration of hands! This board book is a sweet rhyme to read to your baby while they look at pictures of other babies. This book is part of series that includes Hello, Feet!, Hello, Face!, and Hello, Tummy!
