Fall 2026

There’s Something About September that Makes Everything Feel a Little Bit New.

The backpacks come out, the calendars fill up, the alarm clocks get set a little earlier, and suddenly we’re all back to figuring out who needs to be where—and when. Summer may be winding down, but I’ve always loved the feeling that comes with this time of year. It’s a fresh start without actually having to start from scratch.

And I love the little things that come with fall. The first chilly morning. My favourite sweater. Leaves changing colour. The new daytimer and calendar. That first evening when everyone seems happy to be home and the house feels a little cozier.

Of course, getting back into a routine isn’t always quite as charming!

Between school, sports, activities, homework, appointments and trying to squeeze in some actual family time, fall can quickly become one of the busiest seasons of the year. That’s why this issue of Winnipeg Parent is all about finding that balance—getting organized, getting involved and, most importantly, enjoying the season along the way.

Inside this issue, we’re looking at ways to make the transition back to school a little easier, keeping kids moving and active, exploring the benefits of creative activities, helping with lunch plans, and finding ways to make learning fun both in and out of the classroom.

We’re also talking STEM, vision health, weekend adventures and plenty of ideas to remind us that family life shouldn’t revolve entirely around the school calendar.

So, as we settle into another school year, I hope you’ll give yourself permission to enjoy the organized chaos a little. The packed calendars won’t last forever—and neither will these busy, wonderful years of raising kids.

Here’s to crisp mornings, colourful trees, full calendars and making the most of all the little moments in between.

Happy Fall!
