Walk as a Family and #TakeTheChallenge

Having previously walked 20 km at Challenge for Life each year in honour of her mom, Melanie Crichton was looking for a new way to participate in CancerCare Manitoba Foundation’s largest fundraising event.

“A lot has changed since I first participated in Challenge for Life 15 years ago. I now have two very energetic little boys, so the option of a 5 km family-friendly walk was just what I needed to get my kids involved and introduce them to a cause that’s dear to my heart. Our team of Little Acorns were up to the challenge of walking this more manageable distance and took the time while walking to talk about what cancer is, how it has impacted our family, and why it is so important that we do things like this.”

Since 2008, Challengers like Melanie and the Little Acorns team have come together to raise serious money aimed at changing lives and supporting CancerCare Manitoba. By joining Challenge for Life this June, you can be a part of this incredible group of people all moving toward the same goal…a future free of cancer.

All funds raised stay in the province to support prevention, early detection, state-of-the-art research, world-class treatment and vital patient programs and services at CancerCare Manitoba – resulting in better patient outcomes.

Popular with families, the 5 km walk follows stroller-friendly paths within leafy Assiniboine Park and includes a check stop at the halfway mark with snacks, water refill station, entertainment and washrooms. After returning to the main site and ringing the bells at the finish line, younger walkers can enjoy the dedicated Kid Zone with crafts, face-painting, activities and bouncers, and refuel with lunch at the dining tent.

“I would strongly encourage parents to consider participating with their children in this incredibly valuable opportunity to contribute to CancerCare Manitoba. You are not only helping individuals who are battling cancer now, but also providing hope for the future,” says Melanie. “Children learn from our example and from little acorns, mighty trees will grow.”
